Taylor Swift Didn't Do DWTS and We Need to Talk — taylor dwts…

Persona #3 · Vol: 1000
Look, I know what you're thinking. You saw "Taylor" and "DWTS" trending and your brain immediately conjured an image of Taylor Swift cha-cha-ing her way across the ballroom in a sequined leotard while Travis Kelce cheers from the audience holding a chicken tender. Sorry to burst that fever dream, but that is not what happened. What happened is infinitely more chaotic, deeply American, and honestly kind of sad in a way that only reality television can deliver. Taylor Swift has never been on Dancing With the Stars. Not once. Not in any season. Not even as a "surprise musical guest" during a results show, which is basically the show's way of saying "please watch, we're begging you." This is a woman who has been famous since she was sixteen, has released more albums than most people have had hot meals, and has somehow dodged the DWTS casting couch for nearly two decades. That's not an accident. That's a strategy. But here's where it gets spicy. The internet, in its infinite wisdom and complete inability to read past a headline, recently decided that Taylor Swift was somehow connected to DWTS drama. Was it because a pro dancer liked a tweet? Was it because a contestant mentioned her name during rehearsal footage? Was it because someone on Reddit claimed they saw her at a Starbucks near the studio? Yes. All of the above. And none of it was true. The real story is that DWTS is currently in its post-ABC, Disney+ era, which means it's basically the television equivalent of a beloved family member who moved to Florida and now sends you weird Facebook messages at 3 AM. The ratings are fine. The drama is manufactured. And every season, the show desperately tries to book a Taylor Swift-adjacent celebrity to drum up buzz. They've had Olivia Jade. They've had Vinny Guadagnino. They've had Carole Baskin, for crying out loud. They are not picky. They would book Taylor's backup dancer's cousin's roommate if it meant a headline. So why does this keep happening? Because we, as a society, cannot let things go. We see a blonde woman in a sparkly dress and our brains short-circuit. We hear "Taylor" and assume it's the one who wrote "All Too Well." We are collectively the person at a party who says "wait, is that the guy from that thing?" and then spends twenty minutes googling it on their phone while everyone else moves on with their lives. The truth is that Taylor Swift is too big for DWTS. She's too big for the Super Bowl halftime show, apparently, which is a whole other rant. She's at the point in her career where she could announce a tour of exclusively Ohio and it would sell out in four seconds. She doesn't need a mirrorball trophy. She has enough trophies. She has a trophy room that probably requires its own zip code. But here's the thing: part of me wants it to happen. Not because it would be good television, but because it would be the funniest possible outcome. Imagine Taylor Swift, billionaire, Time Person of the Year, showing up to a Disney+ soundstage to learn a jive from a guy named Sasha. Imagine her pretending to be nervous about the judges' scores. Imagine Bruno Tonioli screaming "YOU ARE A SUPERSTAR" while she just nods politely and thinks about her private jet. It would be the most surreal, delightful, deeply unserious thing to ever happen. And it will never happen. And that's probably for the best. In conclusion, Taylor Swift is not on Dancing With the Stars. She was never on Dancing With the Stars. She will never be on Dancing With the Stars. But if you're still holding out hope, I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you. It's near the studio.
