Slow Horses Season 6 Is Coming And My Blood Pressure Isn't
Persona #3 · Vol: 2000
So the big brains at Apple TV+ finally did the thing nobody asked for but everybody secretly needed: they renewed *Slow Horses* for a sixth season. Yes, the show where Gary Oldman plays a farting, whiskey-soaked gremlin who runs a department of MI5 rejects, is getting another lap. And honestly? In a television landscape where every good show gets canceled after one season and every bad one gets nine, this feels like the universe accidentally doing something right for once.
For the uninitiated—and if you're uninitiated, what are you even doing with your streaming subscriptions—*Slow Horses* follows the "slow" team at Slough House, a glorified detention center for British intelligence agents who screwed up badly enough to get exiled but not quite badly enough to get fired. Think of it as the office from *The Office*, except everyone has a security clearance and at least one coworker has definitely committed a war crime.
Season 6 will adapt *Joe Country*, the sixth novel in Mick Herron's Jackson Lamb series. If you've read the books, you know that title is doing some heavy lifting, and if you haven't, just know that things get bleak. Like, "hide the good scotch" bleak. The show has never been afraid to kill off characters you love, which is precisely why every season feels like watching your 401(k) during a market crash—stressful, but you can't look away.
What makes this show work isn't the espionage. It's that everyone in it is profoundly, hilariously bad at their jobs in ways that feel uncomfortably relatable. River Cartwright (Jack Lowden) is the golden boy who keeps face-planting. Roddy Ho (Christopher Chung) is every insufferable tech bro who ever explained something to you that you already knew. And Jackson Lamb is the boss we all deserve and none of us could survive—a man who weaponizes apathy and personal hygiene as psychological warfare.
Apple TV+ has been quietly building one of the best libraries in streaming while everyone else was busy fighting over the *Friends* reunion money. *Severance*, *For All Mankind*, *Ted Lasso*, and now another season of the best spy show on television. It's almost like spending money on good writing works. Wild concept, I know.
The sixth season doesn't have a release date yet, but based on the show's track record, expect it sometime in 2026, which gives you plenty of time to finally watch the first five. And if you're one of those people who says "I'll get to it eventually," you won't. You'll keep rewatching *The Office* for the 47th time and complaining there's nothing good on. Do better.
No word yet on whether Gary Oldman will continue to be the single greatest argument for letting British people make television. But he will. He always does. The man could read a grocery list and make it sound like a threat.
**Final Take:** *Slow Horses* is the rare show that gets better every season, which is statistically impossible in modern television and yet here we are. Watch it before the algorithm decides it's too smart for you and cancels it out of spite.
